AWS adds GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna to Amazon Bedrock

AWS says the GPT-5.6 family is available through Bedrock, adding a cloud-platform route shortly after OpenAI's own general-availability announcement.

Amazon Web Services said on July 13 that GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna are generally available through Amazon Bedrock. The AWS announcement says the family can be called through the Responses API and presents the move as availability on Bedrock's next-generation inference engine. This is an access and deployment update for the three models, rather than a new claim about their capabilities.

The timing matters because it follows OpenAI's own rollout sequence. OpenAI previewed GPT-5.6 Sol on June 26, then announced general availability for the Sol, Terra, and Luna family on July 9. AWS's July 13 post places the same family on Bedrock four days later. The cited notices should not be read as an account-specific capacity or quota promise.

Both companies describe the family as a tiered offering rather than three interchangeable names. AWS, citing OpenAI's naming, calls Sol the flagship reasoning tier, Terra the balanced option for everyday production work, and Luna the faster, lower-cost tier for high-volume tasks. Those characterizations are vendor descriptions, not independently verified comparisons, so teams should test their own latency, quality, and cost requirements instead of treating the labels as a universal ranking.

For Bedrock users, the practical change is another route for running the GPT-5.6 family within AWS. AWS lists Sol in US East (N. Virginia) and US East (Ohio), while Terra and Luna are also listed for US West (Oregon); its post also describes prompt caching and existing AWS-commitment accounting. Regional coverage and product features may make that route relevant to teams with AWS residency or procurement constraints, but the announcement alone is not evidence of suitability for a particular workload.
