OpenAI details GPT-5.6 tiers and Microsoft 365 Copilot plan
OpenAI says GPT-5.6 comprises Sol, Terra and Luna, and that the family will become Microsoft 365 Copilot's preferred model. The cited announcements do not give a tenant-by-tenant Copilot cutover schedule.
OpenAI says GPT-5.6 has three tiers: Sol, its flagship, Terra, a lower-cost option, and Luna, its fastest and most affordable tier. The company says the family is available across ChatGPT, Codex and its API, with model selection varying by product and plan.
In a separate announcement, OpenAI says GPT-5.6 will become the preferred model in Microsoft 365 Copilot, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Chat and Cowork. It also says Microsoft will access OpenAI models through the API alongside native model serving.
The announcements describe the model tiers and product paths, but not a tenant-by-tenant schedule for the Microsoft 365 change. For users, the practical distinction is which tier and plan fit their work; organizations should verify the Copilot rollout in their own tenant.
